Makashule Gana; chairperson of impeachment committee
Parliament’s section 89 impeachment committee has newly elected Mr Makashule Gana, one of Rise Mzansi’s two members of parliament as its chairperson, as the committee prepares to begin its work in investigating President Cyril Rmaphosa’s conduct into PhalaPhala.

It took the parliaments impeachment committee just 20 minutes to reach this decision. Gana maintains that he is very much familiar with the work of parliament and adds that “in their (parliaments) choice of Makashule Gana to chair this committee is because they know the kind of work that I’m going to execute, uh objectively, impartially without fear, favour or prejudice”.
Who voted for whom
With the chairperson now in place, the committee can turn its attention to the work ahead. Members are expected to soon consider the rules, procedures and timelines that will govern an inquiry carrying significant constitutional and political implications.
Gana says he is ready to accept the responsibility; “my task is to ensure that this committee works together and that all members in the committee produce the kind of report that when south African look at, they will say that we have done our work. So, the work has begun. I’m meeting the committee so that I know the team that is assigned to this committee”.
